English Salon
Our Portal for Chinese People to Interact with Us
This echoes our local grass-roots public meetings online
Explanation:

English Salon is a physical social gathering where Chinese can practice their English with Native speakers from any part of the World. It is often a lot of fun for all, and a very useful learning tool

Most Chinese regulars are currently either people involved with Export Sales, those making personal time to learn English, or self-taught Chinese. A few also wish to practice online-conversations ie chatting foreigners on messenger - and we have internet enabled computers available for them to do this in real-time. I am yet to use my local University contacts to broaden the spectrum, but I hope to do so soon (Written: 05.09.2008)

Our English guests are normally a mix of British, American, and Canadian. In return for giving a couple of hours each week, and enjoying our social setting - ie a few beers; they also get a very pertinent Cantonese Salon (Or Mandarin Salon by arrangement) on another evening. This gives them the practical language tools to interact with people on the local streets

Foshan:
I have recently created a local English Salon with the help of a few friends. It is laid-back, informal, and extremely popular

By nature, it is open to anyone, and we are currently running a series of Theme Nights

I have found that by running a complimentary Cantonese Salon, we understand the Language and Cultural issues involved a lot better - hence both Salon's deliver the content necessary to dramatically improve a persons language skills; and not that dictated by more the vociferous or ebullient members, or as delivered by a more formal Language School

Our latest initiative is to deliver a Gala Contest, scheduled for Christmas 2008 - to be held at a Top local venue.

So far we have three teams from English Salon, but only one from Cantonese Salon - so your participation is a very welcome!

The Gala will feature theatrical and musical performances from all teams entered - but of course, will be performed in the other language. It is very neat, and bound to be a lot of fun! Prizes will be awarded

This has since taken on a life of it's own, and the interaction created between (And without) the other side is phenomenal. Call back later for results and pictures
